Veronika Bilger is the Head of Research at ICMPD. She has coordinated and worked in numerous EU and national-funded projects including on migration governance, the impact of specific migration policies, migration statistics, migrant smuggling and human trafficking and irregular migration, family migration and integration policies with particular expertise in qualitative research and research methods. Besides her research activities at ICMPD, Veronika has lectured on international migration and its regulation in the department for International Development at the University of Vienna for many years and has provided numerous trainings not only in academia but also to law enforcement and other professional groups. She is a member of the European IMISCOE Research Network and of the Vienna Journal of African Studies. She holds a university degree in African Studies with a focus on Social, Gender and Development Studies from the University of Vienna and the University of Naples. Postgraduate Program at the International Women‘s University “Technology and Culture”, Hanover. Her research interests include migration policy, migration statistics, irregular migration, gender and migration, integration/non-discrimination.
