Martin Wagner

ROLE IN THE PROJECT:
Has more than 25 years of professional migration experience and has managed international projects.
Martin Wagner has been with ICMPD since 2006. From 2006 until 2010, he worked in the Border Management Team before he became Programme Manager for ICMPD’s Asylum Competence Centre. Since 2017, he serves as Senior Policy Advisor Asylum. He has a legal background, with a specialisation in international protection as well as irregular migration, border management and return monitoring. Before joining ICMPD, he worked for NGOs, for the Human Rights Advisory Board in the Austrian Ministry of Interior and implemented twinning projects in Lithuania and Ukraine as Resident Twinning Advisor. Martin Wagner has more than 25 years of professional migration experience and has managed international projects in the field of migration and asylum for 20 years. He authored or co-authored several comparative studies on European asylum systems, several working papers and blogs on solidarity, asylum responsibility sharing, and harmonisation among EU members. From 2017 – 2019 he ed ICMPDs contribution to the H2020 research project “Evaluation of the Common European Asylum System under Pressure and Recommendations for Further Development (Acronym: CEASEVAL)” and from 2019 to 2022 he led ICMPD’s team in the H2020 project “Transnational Figurations of Displacement: Connectivity and Mobility as Solutions to Protracted Refugee Situations” (TRAFIG).
